Flood and Erosion Control Achievements of Administration of Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke (Nov 2022 – Present)

Introduction

To avert issues of flood and erosion, which are potential causes of loss of lives and properties, the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke invested heavily in massive dredging and desilting of streams and waterways across Osun State. Most of these exercises were carried out during the dry season to ensure optimal value for money.

Recorded Successes (2023 – 2025)

  • 2023:
    • Dredging and desilting of 871,041.80 m³ volume across 116 streams statewide.
    • Clearing, cleaning, and evacuation of debris from Osun River at Osun Groove.
  • 2024:
    • Dredging and desilting of 2,589,600 m³ volume across 163 streams statewide.
    • Clearing and carting away debris from 350 clogged culverts across the state.
    • Annual clearing, cleaning, and evacuation of debris from Osun River at Osun Groove.
  • 2025:
    • Dredging and desilting of 3,339,090 m³ volume across 196 streams statewide.
    • Clearing, cleaning, and evacuation of debris from Osun River at Osun Groove.

Overall Impact

Within three years of the administration:

  • Total dredging and desilting volume: 6,799,731.80 m³
  • Total streams and rivers dredged: 475
  • Clogged culverts desilted and maintained: 350
  • Annual clearing, cleaning, and evacuation of debris from Osun River at Osun Groove.
