Achievements of His Excellency Senator (Dr.) Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke The Executive Governor of Osun State in the Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment

The Ministry of Cooperatives and Empowerment was established on 19th July, 2023. It was carved out from the old Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Empowerment. The Ministry provides an enabling environment for the Cooperative sector to thrive, reduces unemployment through cooperative initiatives and empowerment schemes, and trains individuals on proper management of Cooperative Societies via the Cooperatives College at Ode-Omu.

Major Achievements

  • Revenue generation through coordination of Cooperative Societies and the College.
  • January 2024: First Cooperative Summit and Awards in Osun State. Governor announced ₦1 Billion Cooperative Revolving Loan, later increased to ₦3.45 Billion. ₦1.6 Billion already released via FOSCOOP.
  • 2024: Partnership with Project Enable Africa to train Persons Living with Disabilities on ICT, providing laptops and cash grants.
  • Cooperative Revolving Disbursement Programme:
    • ₦736,050,000 (interest-free loan) disbursed to 402 Ward-Based Cooperative Societies, benefiting 20,000+ households.
    • ₦800,000,000 disbursed to 250+ conventional cooperative unions/societies under FOSCOOP, benefiting 10,233+ individuals.
    • Total disbursement: ₦1,586,050,000.
  • ₦50,000,000 disbursed to Osun indigenes in Abuja and Northern Nigeria to boost businesses.
  • May 2025: Food Bank Initiative with Fidelity Bank — 3,000 residents received free foodstuffs.
  • Upgrading Sen. Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke College of Cooperative Studies, Ode-Omu, into a Uniosun campus.
  • September 2025: 1,200 women and youths empowered with POS terminals, registered with CAC free of charge, and funded for entrepreneurship.
  • Ongoing partnerships with corporates and social organizations to train youths/women in tailoring, carpentry, farming, ICT, etc.
  • 2025: Training programmes for conventional cooperative societies organized with FOSCOOP.
  • July 2025: 1,206 executives of Ward-Based Cooperative Societies trained on cooperative operations.
  • October 2025: 2,000 citizens empowered with ₦50,000 each to boost businesses.
  • January 2026: 450 members of Vulcanizers Association (Osun Branch) trained, given free tyre gauges and cash support.
